"We need your help, we need it now, please..."

    Our aim is to finance the
    activities of the Cape Parrot
    Working Group in order to:

  • Foster national pride in the Cape Parrot, the only
    exclusively South African parrot and ambassador
    of our Afromontane forests;

  • Manage and coordinate captive breeding
    programs by assisting PAAZAB with the Cape
    Parrot studbook;

  • Ensure the preservation and restoration of the
    habitat, Afromontane mixed yellowwood mistbelt
    forests, of the Cape Parrots;

  • Guarantee an effective law enforcement system (e.
    g. DNA fingerprinting and micro-chipping) for
    protecting the Cape Parrot populations in the wild;

  • Support  sustainable development and poverty
    eradication for communities in the Cape Parrot’s
    range; and

  • Actively monitor the wild-caught bird trade in
    South Africa, identify illegal traders, and halt the
    exploitation of local communities by profiteering
    middlemen.
